"Some artists make strong statements regarding the state of the world.
One of the most striking pieces in the show is Katrin Roos' matchbook series, riveting reminders of the impermanence, uncertainty and instability of the minefield we call home.
In each piece, the matches, painted with references to global warming, weapons of destruction and the events of Sept. 11, stand, like mournful sentinels in a row, tiny embodiments of the incendiary potency possible at the scratch of a match."

"As much as I really enjoy almost all of the work in this show, it is a triptych matchbook set that really gets me. Katrin Roos of NYC captures honorable mention for her watercolor on matchbook: Match In Heaven, acrylic on matchbook Global Warming, and her watercolor on matchbook Ready To Fire.
Each of these tiny pieces looks at home from the city, country, and global perspective. While others may be remarkable because of technique, unexpected textures, or color, Roos is able to speak volumes from well-titled and executed matchsticks - a clever commentary on the state of our shared home, the earth."
